Solivis, a startup producing sulfide-based solid electrolytes, ‘key materials for 시노 스 토토사이트 batteries’
The future goal is to develop an integrated system that produces and stores energy
“I hope you challenge new fields and expand your own unique potential.”
Recently, solid-state batteries have gained attention as the next-generation battery due to electric vehicle fires. Conventional lithium-ion batteries, used as the core power source for electric vehicles, rely on liquid electrolytes. If the separator—responsible for preventing contact between the anode and cathode—becomes damaged from heat or external impact, it can lead to fires and explosions.
A 시노 스 토토사이트 battery is a battery that replaces the liquid electrolyte between the anode and cathode with a solid electrolyte. The solid electrolyte itself serves as a separator, effectively preventing contact between the anode and cathode and solving stability issues.
Solivis, a startup producing sulfide-based solid electrolytes, the key material for 시노 스 토토사이트 batteries, is a leading company in the field of 시노 스 토토사이트 materials, possessing core technology for solid electrolytes and mass production processes. On February 12th, Solivis secured 12.4 billion KRW in new investments from Bridge Investment, the Small and Medium Business Corporation, and others, bringing its total accumulated investment to 42.2 billion KRW.
As the first company in Korea to conduct national projects on 시노 스 토토사이트 batteries and operate a research lab, Solivis CEO and Professor Shin Dong-wook of the School of Materials Science and Engineering shared detailed insights.
The secret to rapid growth, the fruit of 20 years of research
Professor Shin Dong-wook has been serving as a professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering since 1998 and started researching 시노 스 토토사이트 electrolytes in 2002. His full-fledged entrepreneurial venture began in March 2020, supported by the Hanyang University Startup Support Foundation and startup projects funded by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Ministry of Science and ICT.
In the first year of its establishment, Solivis secured a total of 1 billion KRW in seed funding and TIPS projects, officially starting its business. In May 2021, the company raised 5 billion KRW in Series A funding, bringing its valuation to 20 billion KRW. Solivis subsequently secured 3 billion KRW in bridge investment and raised 20 billion KRW in Series B funding, with the 12.4 billion KRW secured this time further proving the company’s ongoing growth potential.
Solivis has a business model where it manufactures solid electrolytes, the key material for 시노 스 토토사이트 batteries, and supplies them to secondary battery manufacturers and automobile companies. The company holds core technology for mass production of solid electrolytes and more than 100 domestic and international patents.
Professor Shin started joint research with Hyundai Motor Company in the early 2010s, laying the groundwork for technology commercialization. In particular, research conducted at the Hyundai Motor joint research lab from 2012 to 2015 drew attention to the 시노 스 토토사이트 electrolyte technology within the industry.
Professor Shin said, “Among the countries that lead the technological competition, Korea, Japan, and China, the competitiveness of domestic secondary battery companies has reached the highest level in the world. Solivis will become a key supplier of core materials supporting the domestic industry.”
Unparalleled competitiveness in mass production technology
시노 스 토토사이트 electrolytes are generally categorized into polymer, oxide, and sulfide-based materials. Solivis boasts unparalleled competitiveness in mass production technology for sulfide-based materials. Sulfide-based materials, which have never been mass-produced in human history, represent a rare technological field with a global production volume of only a few hundred kilograms.
Professor Shin said, “Through 20 years of deep understanding and research on the physicochemical properties, we have perfected the mass production technology for sulfide-based solid electrolytes with world-class performance and quality. The technology we possess is unique in the global market.”
Currently, the secondary battery market is facing technological limitations due to the rapid growth of electric vehicles. Professor Shin emphasized, “Solid-state batteries are an innovative technology that can overcome the limitations of conventional liquid electrolytes, enhancing both safety and performance. Solid-state batteries are the key solution to overcoming the technological chasm faced by secondary batteries.”
Solivis’s future strategy
Solivis is completing the construction of its mass production factory and is scheduled to begin full-scale production in April. The future goal is to expand beyond 시노 스 토토사이트 electrolyte production and develop an integrated system that produces and stores energy.
Professor Shin explained, “A secondary battery is an energy storage device, and our goal is to develop an intelligent power pack by integrating fuel cells, power supply systems, and power management systems that produce and supply energy. This will become key technology for mobile energy-consuming devices such as UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) and robots.”
Leading the next-generation 시노 스 토토사이트 battery market
Professor Shin said, “As a researcher, it is a great joy to research a single technology for a long time and achieve the dream of commercialization. I will continue to lead the solid-state battery market through continuous technological development and research.”
Lastly, Professor Shin shared some words of wisdom with Hanyang students: “During my doctoral studies, through my research on semiconductor Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) technology, I realized that challenging new fields that others haven’t pursued and maintaining consistent effort is crucial. I hope you don’t get scared to take the path less traveled and expand your own potential through your uniqueness and persistent efforts.”
