The 2025 Spring Season HYU-LEAGUE, Hanyang University’s signature on-campus sports competition, came to a successful close on May 22. The annual HYU-LEAGUE is a student-led tournament that spans both sports and e-sports, serving as a symbol of camaraderie and school spirit among Hanyang students.
2025 RACHIOS : Expanded sports categories and more structured operations
This year’s HYU-LEAGUE drew attention with its expanded scope and improved management. Notably, basketball returned as a featured category, joining soccer, League of Legends (LoL), and FC Online (FIFA) to bring the total to four official events.
Shin Min-gyu (3rd year, Department of Materials Science and Engineering), head of the 2025 Spring Season HYU-LEAGUE task force, said, “In response to continued student interest, we brought back basketball to offer a broader range of participation.” The league also updated its eligibility rules to allow students previously registered with professional associations or high school teams to participate under a new “wildcard” system. Prize money was also increased, raising enthusiasm and engagement across the board.
Shin emphasized that the 골드문 토토사이트 먹튀 was run with a strong focus on safety and fairness. “We deployed the HYM Medical Support Team to every match and provided first aid supplies on-site to prevent injuries,” he explained. “Match brackets were drawn randomly, and we made sure that referees and players did not belong to the same department to ensure objectivity.” Additionally, semifinals and finals were officiated by former varsity athletes and certified referees to further ensure impartial judgments.
And the champions are…
Who came out on top in each category?
In the FC Online (FIFA) finals held on May 20, Park Kwan-mo (3rd year, Department of Educational Technology) secured the title with a 2–0 sweep. After a penalty shootout win (6:5) in the first set and a 3:2 finish in the second, Park hoisted the trophy. “It was a really fun match,” he said, “and that joy made the result even more meaningful. I’m grateful to the organizing staff, fellow players, and friends who cheered me on.”

The League of Legends finals were held on the RACHIOS main stage on May 21, where Team ‘return VICTORY’ defeated Team ‘I Want to Be Young’. Team leader Jeon Joo-chan (2nd year, School of Computer Science), said, “After winning the 2022 HYU-LEAGUE and completing my military service, it feels amazing to come back and win again. I’m especially proud to have achieved this result with friends who also recently returned from duty.”

That same day, in the soccer finals at the outdoor stadium, Team ‘Himssae’ (Department of Materials Science and Engineering) clashed with Team ‘Ryan A’ (College of Sports and Arts). After a close game, Himssae took the victory with a 4:3 win in the penalty shootout. Team leader Lee Seung-hoon (3rd year, Department of Materials Science and Engineering) said, “I’m so proud to bring the trophy home after two years, and even more proud to be part of Himssae. Huge thanks to our teammates and to all the students who cheered for us.” He added, “We’ll keep proving why we deserve to be champions.”

The basketball finals took place on May 22 at Olympic Gymnasium 3F, where Team ‘00z Last Dance with Herbs’ (Department of Materials Science and Engineering) faced off against Team ‘Engineering-tinus’ (College of Engineering). In a tightly contested game, 00z came out on top with a final score of 43:40. Team leader Kim Jun-ho (3rd year, Department of Materials Science and Engineering) said, “We wanted to make meaningful memories before graduating, especially since many of us are also in the central basketball club ‘Fifteeners.’ It was tough going up against our own juniors in the semis and finals, but we’re proud to show that we’ve still got it.”
More than competition—HYU-LEAGUE as a platform for connection
Shin emphasized the broader impact of the HYU-LEAGUE on campus life. “This league allows different groups within the university to work together toward a shared goal. That process naturally builds a sense of belonging and solidarity, which is key to fostering trust and a stronger community,” he explained.
He continued, “If the HYU-LEAGUE becomes a tradition that energizes our academic lives and reinforces Hanyang’s identity, it could play a key role in strengthening our school’s cohesion.” He concluded by expressing hope that future editions of the league would grow into events enjoyed by the entire student body, and called for continued collaboration and creative planning to achieve that vision.
