Hanyang University ERICA (President Lee Ki-jeong) held the 2024 ERICA Academic Awards Ceremony on July 2 at the PRIME Conference Hall in the Administration Building to honor researchers who achieved outstanding academic results in the previous year and to encourage future research excellence.

This year’s ceremony recognized a total of 25 awardees across five categories: ▲HCP Distinguished Faculty Award (5 recipients), ▲Excellence in Research Award (11 recipients), ▲Early-Career Faculty Award (4 recipients), ▲Postdoctoral Researcher Award (1 recipient), and ▲Graduate Researcher Award (4 recipients). (※ See Table 1 for the full list of awardees.)

The HCP Distinguished Faculty Award is given to faculty members whose work has been listed as Highly Cited Papers (HCP) over the past five years. The Excellence in Research Award is presented based on six subcategories: international journals, domestic journals, authored or translated books, and industry-academic cooperation—specifically, indirect cost revenue from government R&D, industry R&D, and technology transfer.

The Early-Career Faculty Award is designated for assistant professors within five years of appointment and is granted only once in a recipient’s academic career. The Postdoctoral and Graduate Researcher Awards are based primarily on published achievements in international and domestic journals.

This year’s awards also included revisions to the selection criteria: the former ‘external collaboration’ category was removed, and the ‘industry-academic cooperation’ category was subdivided to distinguish between indirect cost revenues from government R&D and private industry.

Professor Choa Yong-ho (School of Semiconductor Convergence Engineering, Major in Advanced Materials and Semiconductor Engineering), who received the Excellence in Research Award in the ‘Technology Transfer’ category for the third consecutive year, shared, “Through close collaboration with industry, I will continue to focus on bridging basic research with practical applications.”

Professor Gong Tae-shik (School of Business Administration), a two-time recipient in the ‘Outstanding Paper’ category, commented, “This recognition is the result of the hard work of fellow researchers and students who have shared ideas and collaborated. I will continue to pursue meaningful research moving forward.”

The ERICA Academic Awards are part of an annual initiative to discover and reward exceptional researchers. Candidates are selected by the Industry-University Cooperation Foundation based on a comprehensive evaluation of the previous year’s performance, with finalists chosen by the ERICA Academic Research Committee.
