Celebrating the ‘2024–2025 Year of Korea–사설 토토사이트 Mutual Cultural Exchange’
The production offers a meaningful stage for historical connection among young artists from both countries
On August 15 and 16, the original musical Link (R;Link), co-presented by Hanyang University (President Lee Ki-jeong) and the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange (KOFICE, President Park Chang-sik), with support from Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Choi Hwi-young), was performed at BlueShore Theatre of Capilano University in North Vancouver, Canada, receiving an enthusiastic response from audiences.
This project was organized as part of an international co-creation initiative commemorating the “2024–2025 Year of Korea–Canada Mutual Cultural Exchange.” It brought together Hanyang University’s Department of Theatre and Film, Capilano University’s Department of Theatre, First Nations University’s Department of Indigenous Fine Arts, and the University of Saskatchewan’s Department of Drama.
Based on true events, the musical tells the story of Canadian soldiers during the Korean War who played ice hockey on the Imjin River as a way to ease their homesickness. Through its story, the production highlights friendship and solidarity forged even in wartime, capturing youthful bonds that transcend borders and cultures.
The project began with its launch ceremony held in March at the Canadian Battle Monument in Gapyeong, followed by a showcase in June, its premiere at Seoul’s CKL Stage in July, and concluded with the Vancouver performance—marking the end of a seven-month journey.
At the performance in 사설 토토사이트, attendees included Yonah Martin, Senator of 사설 토토사이트; Deputy Consul General Jang Young-jae of the Korean Consulate in Vancouver; representatives from the local Korean community; as well as key dignitaries. Notably, Korean War veterans and their families were in attendance, including Guy Black, a veteran honored with both the Canadian Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Republic of Korea Civil Merit Medal, adding profound significance to the occasion.
Senator Yonah Martin commented, “This production reflected both the history and the future shared between Korea and Canada, leaving a deep impression. The collaboration and friendship that these young performers brought to the stage is symbolic in itself.” Guy Black, an honorary member of the Korean War Veterans Association, added, “Recalling the message that ‘freedom is not free,’ it was deeply moving to see young people revive the history of sacrifice and dedication through theater.”
The musical R;Link represents the culmination of both countries’ next generations expressing history, memory, and emotion through art, and is expected to serve as a model for future international arts collaboration programs.
