On December 5, the ‘Healthy Lab Culture Contest Awards Ceremony 2025’ was held in the First Conference Room of the Administration Building at Hanyang University Seoul Campus. The ‘Healthy Lab Culture Contest’ is an event hosted by the Hanyang University Human Rights Center to spread a culture of human rights protection and mutual respect within graduate school laboratories, aiming to discover and share practical examples at the lab level. The awards ceremony that day was a venue to share the achievements of labs with  healthy research environments based on mutual respect and cooperation. The Hanyang University Human Rights Center has been operating the ‘Healthy Lab Culture Contest’ since 2022 to spread a culture of respect for human rights and mutual consideration within graduate school laboratories. The contest selects excellent laboratories by comprehensively evaluating areas such as mutual respect, conflict management, human rights protection, and research autonomy. The Awards Ceremony for the 4th contest took place in the First Conference Room of the Administration Building with the Executive Vice President, the Dean of the Graduate School, the Director of the Human Rights Center, and the President of the Graduate Student Union in attendance.

The honor of the Bronze Award went to the ‘Flexible Electronic Devices Lab, Department of AI Semiconductor Engineering.’ The lab representative stated, “I participated with the desire to share the image of a happy laboratory with others,” and added, “A culture of mutual respect is the laboratory’s greatest asset.”

The Silver and Gold Awards were taken by the ‘Organic & Inorganic Structures Lab of the Department of Chemical Engineering’ and the ‘Cognitive Information Design Lab of the Department of Learning Science,’ respectively. These labs shared practical examples such as guaranteed free time, transparent research fund management, and the balancing of childcare and research, saying in unison, “An environment that respects the lives of members creates the sustainability of research.” The DBI Lab of the Department of Information Systems, which received the Grand Prize, shared their thoughts: “It was an opportunity to reflect on the fact that a culture of caring for one another is just as important as performance,” and “This award is the result of the efforts of all lab members, not an individual.” Laboratories that won the Grand Prize, Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards were each presented with prize money and a ‘Healthy Lab’ certification mark.

The Flexible Electronic Devices Lab(Department of Artificial Intelligence Semiconductor Engineering), which won the Bronze Award, created a healthy lab culture through daily practices such as fair work distribution and a free ‘clock-out’ culture.
