On January 19, Hanyang University held the ‘2025 HYQ Celebration: Building Future through Questions’ on the 6th floor of the Administration Building to commemorate the achievements of its Question-Based Learning(QBL) education model.

Hanyang University President Lee Ki-jeong remarked in his congratulatory speech, "In an era where AI provides answers to every question instantly, the reason we are refocusing on 'questions' and naming it 'HYQ' is clear. While machines can find answers, the critical, in-depth thoughts beyond those answers and the curiosity leading to new paths is a great power only humans possess." He expressed his gratitude to the awardees, calling them "pioneers who paved the way for students to maintain human dignity even in the age of artificial intelligence."

This event was designed to go beyond simple achievement sharing and solidify the identity of 'HYQ' (Hanyang Question-Based Learning), Hanyang’s unique educational branding which promotes questions as the starting point of learning. Professor Oh Hyun-sook of the AI-Enhanced Teaching & Learning Team reported on the progress of the ‘AI X HYQ’ project, stating that the HYQ brand and question-centered education have now established themselves as an original educational paradigm at Hanyang University.

During the ceremony, awards were presented to 17 educators who contributed to the spread of the HYQ model. For HYQ Pioneer – Future Question Content Development category, professors who built the academic foundation of HYQ by developing future-oriented question content were awarded: Professor Min Chan-hong(Department of Policy Studies), Professor  Sung Tae-hyun(School of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering), Professor You Yeong-mahn(Department of Educational Technology), Professor Yi Sang-wook (Department of Philosophy), and Professor Chung Kyung-young(Department of Composition). On the other hand, the HYQ Excellence – AI X HYQ Class Operation category award went to professors who implemented educational innovation in the classroom. Recipients include Professor Kye Hee-seng(Department of Composition), Professor Kim Sung-min(Department of Sports Industry and Science), Professor Park Min-a(College of Humanities), Professor Bae Sung-chul(School of Architectural Engineering), Professor Won Young-joon(Department of Information Systems), Professor Yoon Seong-won(Department of Political Science and International Studies), Professor Lee Dong-yeong(Department of Applied Art Education), Professor Yi Yeo-jin(Department of Nursing), Professor Lee Jin-won(Department of Life Science), Professor Cho Byeong-young(Department of Korean Language Education), Professor Cho Han-jun(Department of Theater and Film), and Professor Hyun Kyung-hoon(Department of Interior Architecture Design).

In the discussion session following the ceremony, participants agreed that ‘HYQ’ is a unique asset that fosters higher level thinking skills, allowing students to define essential problems and find answers themselves. Starting with this event, Hanyang University plans to strengthen its educational system to "awaken the DNA of questioning" and accelerate the nurturing of important talents who will lead the AI era.
