Hanyang University(Lee Ki-jeong as President) Baseball team once again demonstrated the strength of a top university-league team by producing both a pitcher and an infielder in the latest KBO(Korea Baseball Organization) rookie draft.

At the 2026 KBO rookie draft held on September 17, Players Seo Joon-oh (Department of Sports Science, ERICA, Class of '24) and Shim Geon-bo (Department of Sports Science, ERICA, Class of '22) were selected by Doosan Bears. Seo was picked in the third round(ranked 27th overall) and Shim in the ninth round(ranked 87th overall).

Seo Joon-oh, a sophomore, entered the Early Draft and became the only university student selected in the category this year. He is highly regarded as a pitcher with a fastest pitch speed of 153 km/h and an array of diverse breaking balls. He was also selected for the college all-star 와이즈 토토 at the third Hanwha Eagles High School & College All-Star Game. His college career statistics include 64.2 innings, 75 strikeouts, and a 2.63 ERA for 29 games.

Shim Geon-bo was selected as an infielder in the ninth round, as Doosan Bears filled their 8th–10th round picks only with infielders. His main position is shortstop, and he posted a .327 BA(batting average) with 3 home runs, 39 RBIs(Run Batted In), 40 BB/HBPs(Base on Balls/Hit By Pitch), and 7 stolen bases in total of 64 college games. Shim is noted for his secure infield defense and strong hitting, and he was previously selected as a national team member for the 31st Asian Baseball Championship.

Hanyang University’s baseball team has recently proven its renown by winning the 80th National University Baseball Championship in July. Seo Joon-oh notably led the team’s high performance and was announced as MVP in the tournament, which is said to have led to the selection in the KBO draft.

The university stated it will continue to actively support the growth of collegiate sports and the development of student athletes.
