On September 16, the research team led by Professor Ko Min-jae from the Department of Chemical Engineering, College of Engineering at Hanyang University announced that five graduate students were selected for new research projects under the ‘2025 Doctoral and Master’s Student Research Encouragement Grant Program’ organized by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea. This achievement provides a stronger basis for the team’s next-generation energy research.

The Doctoral and Master's Student Research Encouragement Grant Program, aimed to foster the next generation of scholars and expand research diversity, supports selected doctoral candidates with up to 25 million KRW per year(up to 50 million KRW for 24 months). The master’s student program provides research funding of 12 million KRW for 12 months. Both programs place special emphasis on the creativity and adventurousness of student-initiated research topics during evaluation.

Summary of Graduate Students and 그랜드토토 Topics Selected from Professor Ko Min-jae's Team are as follows.

Kim Yong-joo, Doctoral student: ‘Development of Highly Flexible Electromagnetic Shielding and Thermal Management Composites for Next-Generation Electronic Devices’

Yoo Soo-bin, Doctoral student: 'Development of Self-Healing and Self-Driving Neuromorphic Optoelectronic Systems for Sustainable AI Power Grids'

Kim Jae-yeon, doctoral student: 'AI-Based Platform for Quality Assessment of Perovskite Solar Cells via Thin Film Shape Recognition and Performance Prediction'

Hwang Soo-bin, Master's student: 'Scaling Up Perovskite Single-Crystal Thin Films and Implementing High-Performance Solar Cells'

Mo Hyo-won, Master's student: 'Interface Stabilization Technology Using Self-Healing Electric Field Shielding Mechanisms and Its Application to Anode-Free Lithium Metal Batteries'

Professor Ko commented, “This achievement is the result of students independently developing challenging research topics and building their capabilities. The Brain Korea 21 creative self-directed research project for chemical engineering, research proposal competitions, and the university’s HY-BK G3 program greatly enhanced students’ research skills, enabling them to succeed in these grant programs. I will continue to fully support our students so they can grow into outstanding researchers.”

The 그랜드토토 team of Professor Ko at Hanyang University aims to implement high-performance, highly stable, and sustainable energy systems by integrating next-generation energy materials and AI technology. Their 그랜드토토 goes beyond developing individual materials to enhancing the overall completeness of energy systems, establishing themselves as a leading laboratory in the field of next-generation energy materials and systems.
