On July 18, a memorial bench was unveiled in front of the Paiknam Library & Academic Information Center at Hanyang University in honor of the late Kim Jae-yoon, Chairman of Hanlim Pharm. The ceremony was attended by Chairman Kim’s family, President Lee Ki-jeong, Executive Vice President for ERICA campus Kim Min-soo, and Executive Vice President for Hanyang University Medical System Yoon Ho-joo.
President Lee welcomed the bereaved family and shared the following remarks: “Chairman Kim’s commitment to Hanyang University was both a visionary act and a profound expression of social responsibility. Though he left us around this time last year, today’s ceremony reminds us just how deeply one person’s values and dedication can become part of our university’s history. I am confident that this bench will become a meaningful space where future leaders of Hanyang reflect on his legacy and find renewed determination on their own paths.”
Kim Jung-jin, Vice Chairman of Hanlim Pharm and eldest son of the late Chairman Kim, responded on behalf of the family: “On behalf of the bereaved family, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who joined us for this meaningful occasion. Throughout his life, Chairman Kim firmly believed that corporate profits should be returned to society and that nurturing talent was the best way to give back. It was this conviction that led him to donate scholarships to Hanyang University in support of student development.” He added, “I hope this memorial bench serves as a small seed that passes on his warm heart and unwavering beliefs to future generations.”
Chairman Kim Jae-yoon was a trailblazer in Korea’s pharmaceutical industry and the founder of Hanlim Pharm. Guided by the company’s mission to “safeguard the precious gift of human life from disease,” he made major contributions to public health. He also donated 500 million KRW to establish the “Lion Pride Hanlim Scholarship Fund” at Hanyang University, supporting students in their academic pursuits.
