Hanyang University Tourism Research Institute (Director Professor Lee Hoon) was recognized with multiple awards at the ‘97th Korean Tourism Association Seoul International Conference,’ held on January 16th at Orbis Hall at Kyung Hee University’s Seoul campus, as announced by Hanyang University on the 5th.

First, the paper titled “Analysis of the Process of Introducing the Jeju Environmental Conservation Contribution Fee (Tourism Tax): Application of the Policy Flow Model (PSM)” co-authored by doctoral students Jang Hee-seon and Kim Seo-kyung, along with adjunct professor Kim Kyung-hee, and with Professor Lee Hoon as the corresponding author, won the ‘3rd Tourism Academic Award.’ The research identifies the complex factors and issues in the introduction process of the environmental conservation contribution fee system and proposes effective policy strategies.

In the International Session, the research by doctoral student Kim Jung-mi, titled “Smartphone-Mediated Boundary Reconstruction in Tourism: A Conceptual Model for Connected and Disconnected Experiences,” earned the prestigious ‘Best Paper Award.’ This study presents a conceptual framework on how smartphones shape tourists’ connected and disconnected states, offering a model for expanding tourism experiences through smartphones.

Additionally, in the Graduate Student Research Session, the paper “The Impact of Fun at Festivals on Festival Satisfaction and Subjective Well-Being: Application of a Mixed-Methods Approach,” authored by master’s student Choi Seo-young and doctoral student Kim Min-kyung, won the ‘Excellent Paper Award.’ The authors developed a conceptual model of four types of fun at festivals, which is expected to be utilized in festival management to enhance the fun experience for participants.
