'Want to build an environment where everyone is treated equally without prejudice'
Hanyang University's Center for 파주 토토사이트 with Disabilities, Deobuleosoop (literally, 'Together Forest'), began in 2003 as a reading room for 파주 토토사이트 with disabilities on the first floor of the Paiknam Academic Information Center and Library and was expanded and reorganized into the Center for 파주 토토사이트 with Disabilities in March 2009. The Center continues to provide various support measures for disabled 파주 토토사이트' academics, campus life, and employment, alongside activities like disability awareness improvement education.
Learning Support: 'For Unimpeded Learning'
Learning Support is one of the Center's activities dedicated to ensuring the learning rights of 파주 토토사이트 with disabilities. The Center operates various support measures, including: ▲rental of educational equipment, ▲assistance by student helpers, ▲early course registration, and ▲dedicated reading rooms and seating.
Among the learning support options, students with disabilities chose the early course registration as the most preferred. Lee Da-won, an employee at the Center, explained, "Students with disabilities need to consider classroom accessibility when registering for courses, so demand for priority registration is high. Early course registration is one means to guarantee the learning rights of students with disabilities and minimize inconvenience in course enrollment."
We also learned about the student helper support program. Student helpers are largely categorized into ▲mobility, ▲learning, and ▲daily life assistants. Lee described, "The student helper program is a support measure to ensure the learning rights of students with disabilities. It involves non-disabled students providing assistance to students with disabilities, such as moving between classrooms, providing learning support like writing or note-taking, and daily life assistance."
The matching rate for student helpers has been 100% over the past four years. The Center's efforts are the secret behind this high matching rate. Lee explained, "Even if many students wished to volunteer, they were often not matched because their available activity times didn't align with their needs. To improve this, we have been contacting students enrolled in the same classes as those who need assistance, encouraging them to volunteer as helpers, and continuing efforts to boost the matching rate."
Student satisfaction with the helper activities is also high. Notably, helpers sometimes provide feedback on the necessary support measures they observe during their activities. Lee said, "The satisfaction level is high not only among the students with disabilities but also among the helpers themselves. I feel a great sense of reward when helper students provide feedback to the Center on the assistance needed by disabled students, or when they become friends and continue the helper activity."
The Center also owns various equipment to assist with learning. The equipment can be rented not only by students with disabilities but also by non-disabled students who temporarily need learning assistance. Lee shared an example, "There was a case where we rented learning assistance equipment to a student who was not officially registered as having a disability but had limitations in accessing visual information. Even in cases of temporary disabilities due to injury, not just permanent disabilities, students can receive support such as equipment rental through the Center."
Welfare Support: 'Improving Campus Inconveniences'
Welfare Support involves the Center's activities aimed at improving inconveniences faced by students with disabilities during campus life. The Center plans and operates various activities to get feedback on issues. Lee said, "We create opportunities for communication with students, such as conducting semester-based meetings with the Center Director and offering constant counseling. We are also making various efforts to gather opinions by expanding communication channels, such as through KakaoTalk group chatrooms."
The Center also continues to collaborate with relevant departments to address reported improvements needed for campus facilities. They particularly communicate regularly with the Facility Team to resolve inconveniences. Lee noted, "The Facility Team quickly addressed student requests for repairs to the wheelchair ramp and tactile paving near the main gate. We are grateful that they empathize with the necessity of various student opinions and quickly implement changes."
Activity Support for Fostering 파주 토토사이트 Community, Providing Cultural Exploration Opportunities
Activity Support involves supporting students' cultural exploration and social interaction. A representative activity is the semester-based Cultural Exploration. Lee explained, "We aim to plan activities that students want most by gathering opinions. Since the semester-based cultural exploration involves external activities, we consider students' safety and travel routes when proceeding."
The Center also supports self-governing activities of students with disabilities, such as providing assistance to the Students with Disabilities Human Rights Committee. The committee carries out various projects to easen activities of disabled students on campus. Lee said, "The Center regularly discusses the promotion and support measures for the Human Rights Committee to ensure it's well operated."
Career and Employment Support: 'For a Successful First Step into Society'
Career and Employment Support aims to help students with successful career planning and job seeking. The Center operates programs to strengthen employment competency, such as conducting mock interviews in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and providing vouchers to takes lectures related to employment. Lee stated, "We strive to offer good programs by inviting experts experienced in career coaching for students with disabilities. In particular, we continue efforts to alleviate the psychological difficulties and anxieties that students with disabilities often feel when preparing for employment."
The Center hopes that all Hanyang students will be interested in and participate in these career and employment programs. Lee expressed, "Although the Center's career and employment programs focus on strengthening the competencies of students with disabilities, anyone can participate. We hope that students will observe each other's job preparation processes and, in doing so, recognize each other's existence and realize that they are members of a single community."
'For the Recognition That Everyone is a Member of Hanyang University'
The Center aims for a campus environment where everyone, regardless of disability status, is viewed without prejudice as a member of Hanyang University. Lee stated, "The goal is to create a campus environment where everyone is treated as an equal member of Hanyang University. We plan to steadily conduct awareness improvement education and competitions so that students who need help are recognized not as people who need assistance, but as members who study and enjoy campus life together."
He added, "Just like the name 'Deobuleosoop' suggests, we hope the Center becomes a space where all members of the campus can freely visit and socialize, not just students with disabilities or helpers. We hope that the Center's diverse programs and activities become widely known."
