The Hanyang University Graduate School of Technology & Innovation Management(MOT) conducted the ‘2025 HY MOT Global Innovation Leadership Program’ for 35 enrolled students at the University of Sussex in the UK from September 15th to 19th. The program operated as a regular curriculum with joint faculty from both Korea and the UK, providing an opportunity for future global innovation leaders to gain insight into sustainable growth.

The Global Innovation Leadership Program was planned as part of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 'Global Advanced Strategy Industry Talent Development Project.' Professor Kwon Gyu-hyun, Dean of the Graduate School of Technology & Innovation Management, explained the motivation behind the program, stating, "Since the first keyword of the program is 'Global,' it was important for students to build a global network and cultivate leadership as agents of innovation."

While Hanyang University MOT has maintained exchanges with overseas universities and industries since 2010, this program holds deeper significance. Dean Kwon explained, "It is not a simple visit but a program structured as a regular course that grants academic credits. To add depth, Professor Jang Young-ha from the University of Sussex conducted a 27-hour block-course pre-education in Korea a week before the actual training in the UK."

The partner institution for the program, the Science Policy Research Unit(SPRU) at the University of Sussex, is recognized as a world leader in science and technology policy and strategy. Dean Kwon stated, "With the goal of partnering with the world's best, we visited the University of Sussex starting last year, introduced Hanyang University's capabilities, and prepared the program."

The core themes of the program were 'Sustainable Growth' and '토토나라 먹튀검증사이트 Governance.' Participating students explored the essence of ESG management, including the fundamental concepts of offshore wind power, a symbol of Brighton, UK, and bio-venture investment strategies, fostering reflection on 'Sustainable Growth.' The program provided the participating students with a new perspective. Nam Yeon-woo(MOT, Class of ‘25), who works in global marketing for a semiconductor fabless company, explained his motivation, saying, "As someone who studies how technology translates into business competitiveness, I wanted to learn the process of how theory and policy are applied at a world-class institution like SPRU."

Nam cited Professor Paul Nightingale's lecture, 'Innovation doesn't only happen in one way,' and Professor Sarah Otner's session on 'Negotiation and Innovation' as the most impressive. He said, "Through the site visit to the UK hydrogen fuel cell company, I realized that true innovation is not just an idea from a lab but is completed when policy, industry, and people move together. I learned that genuine innovation is done through the power of cooperation."

The experience was also special for Lee Tae-hee(MOT, Class of ‘25), a full-time researcher studying future mixed reality (XR) environments. As a former UX designer, Lee explained, "I participated to fill the gap in national policy perspectives I felt I lacked focusing only on research."

Lee earned new questions through Professor Jang Young-ha's redefinition of the term 'Digital Transformation' and Professor Adrian Ely's lecture on 'The Ambivalence of Innovation.' He shared, "Seeing the limitations of technological innovation achieving economic growth but facing environmental constraints made me think again about the meaning of 'green growth.' I gained confidence that in the future, I can reduce conflicts with stakeholders and provide a smoother experience for customers in any organization I’m in."

The program aligns with the global vision Hanyang University MOT holds. Dean Kwon expressed pride, stating, "Hanyang University MOT possesses the largest number of full-time faculty among universities nationwide, offering the widest academic spectrum that encompasses the three areas of 'Technology Innovation,' 'Technology Design,' and 'Technology Commercialization'." He also pointed out that the recent trend of large corporations seeking graduates specializing in technology management indicates that 'the era of relying solely on technology development is over.' Dean Kwon emphasized, "Technology needs to serve as a 'bridge' that converts to added values and leads to innovation. This is precisely what the current society demands from technology management."

Regarding the future of MOT, Dean Kwon stated, "It is crucial not to remain static but to strive for global competitiveness. We aim for a model of sharing knowledge and mutual cooperation, rather than being in a position of unilaterally receiving education abroad." Hanyang University MOT is preparing to sign a Dual Degree MOU with the University of Sussex, following a joint degree agreement with Nantes University in France. Furthermore, by establishing a Northeast Asian network through 'Global MOT' (Chinese language program), it is poised to grow into a hub for nurturing global innovation talent, connecting Europe and Asia.

Hanyang University MOT is also preparing to expand its influence by informing the broader Hanyang community about the importance of technology management.
