A startup led by Professor Ha Sung-kyu of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Hanyang University, 3P.com Co., Ltd., has successfully commercialized the world’s first 100% recyclable composite high-pressure hydrogen tank. And this commercialization marks a game changer in the next-generation hydrogen industry.
3P.com was founded in 2020 by Professor Ha, based on 33 years of accumulated research from his Hanyang Structure & Composites Lab(HSCL). The company has secured full-cycle technology ranging from design to manufacturing and verification by developing a carbon fiber–mineral fiber hybrid structure, introducing robot-based automated processes, and creating its own ultra-high-pressure(1,600bar) burst testing system. Through its development, it overcame the long-standing limitation of conventional high-pressure hydrogen vessels: 'non-recyclable'.
Accordingly, the commercialization of 3P.com's recyclable hydrogen tank is now expanding overseas through technology transfer and joint ventures in markets such as India, Taiwan, and China. The company signed a 640 million KRW technology transfer contract with Azista in India, including an 11-year royalty agreement; concluded a technology transfer deal with Sunwell of Taiwan, which includes royalty payments of 1.25 to 2% of annual sales; and established a 11.6 billion KRW joint venture with Cathay Biotech in China. As a result, the revenue of the company grew rapidly from 17.4 million KRW in 2022 to 872.77 million KRW in 2024, with cumulative exports reaching 840 million KRW.
The technology adopts a ‘zero waste’ cycle which means to generate no waste material, enabling its compliance with increasingly strict global environmental regulations such as the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism(CBAM). By simultaneously achieving weight reduction, cost efficiency, and high performance, the hydrogen tanks are applicable to a wide range of transport platforms, including passenger vehicles, trucks, railways, ships, and drones. Its broad applicability enables it to act as a core technology of the future hydrogen industry.
3P.com’s rapid growth has been strongly supported by Hanyang University’s Industry–University Cooperation Foundation, which has provided strategic assistance throughout the entire process from filing fundamental patents to technology transfer, intellectual property(IP) advancement, and commercialization support. Therefore, the company was able to stably establish high-quality products and processes from its early stages.
Professor Ha Sung-kyu, CEO of 3P.com, stated, “Hanyang University’s Industry–University Cooperation Foundation has been a strong partner in turning our research results into market success. We will prove that university-based technology startups can lead the global market.”
Looking forward, 3P.토토사이트 신고보상 plans to expand its business into next-generation infrastructure, including global hydrogen pipelines and modular storage systems. This case of growth through collaboration with Hanyang University is expected to be토토사이트 신고보상e a representative success model of university-driven technology startups in Korea.
