Grand Prize: A Moment of Healing

Choi Sang-in (3rd year, Department of Nursing), participated in a sports program for individuals w토토사이트 은행 조회서h developmental disabil토토사이트 은행 조회서ies at the Seongdong Public Health Center.
“I was assigned to personally coach participants one-on-one. Communication wasn’t always easy, and there were tough moments. But during the seventh week, one participant came up to me and said, ‘Thank you so much for helping us.’ I went home and cried. It was one of those moments where I felt like I was the one being comforted.
I’ve always enjoyed volunteering, but I really appreciated how Hanyang made it easy to get involved—no extra planning, just show up and serve. It helped me focus entirely on the volunteer experience.”
Excellence Award: Moments of Connection

Ko Eun-jin (4th year, Department of Policy Studies) volunteered at the Seoul Senior Welfare Center as a supporter for the Seoul International Senior Film Festival.
“I thought I’d be acting as a docent, but it turned out I was assisting seniors who were the main presenters. Before this, I had never had a chance to hear about their lives or perspectives. This experience helped me connect with them in ways I never had before. I’m grateful for how they remembered me and cared, even though we only met once a week for three hours.
The seniors at the center know that Hanyang students volunteer there, and they said, ‘Hanyang students have such warm hearts.’ That made me proud to be part of a university where students are truly living out love.”

Yoo Soo-ah (2nd year, Department of Nursing) mentored a second-grade student w토토사이트 은행 조회서h developmental disabil토토사이트 은행 조회서ies at the Dongdaemun Welfare Center for the Disabled, tutoring in Korean and math.
“Beyond the school subjects, I often wondered what this child really needed. I noticed they were quite guarded and didn’t have many people who truly listened to them. So I always started by asking how their day or week went and carefully listened to each answer.
On the first day, they insisted we keep the classroom door open. But by the fifth week, they closed the door themselves, saying it was okay now. I had worked hard to earn their trust, and it felt like a breakthrough. Just having had this experience is enough of a reward—but receiving this award makes it even more special.”

Bae Jung-soo (4th year, Major in Sports Management) volunteered by packing and delivering lunch boxes to elderly individuals living alone at the Seongdong Senior Welfare Center. “In April, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, and I remember seeing the seniors gathered under the trees chatting while waiting for us. That memory stayed with me,” he said. “They would thank us for bringing lunch, saying it helped them enjoy their meals every day—that brought me great joy.”

Park Ji-eun (3rd year, School of Economics and Finance) taught Korean and math for three hours a week at the Seongdong Good Neighbors Community Child Center. She recalled two sisters who particularly struggled with math. By the end of her service, the girls could recite the 6 times table and read a clock. “I’m planning to visit them again with some snacks using the prize money,” she added with a smile.
Han Jin-young (3rd year, Department of Public Administration) volunteered at Beautiful Store for two months, where she saw how kindness was shared along with donated items. “I told my friends and family to use Beautiful Store more often,” she said, hoping for a continued cycle of giving.

Kim Seul-gi (4th year, Department of Industrial Engineering) introduced children to future technologies like VR and robotic arms at the Seocho Youth Center’s future education pop-up store. “At first, the kids were hard to manage, but now that I look back, only good memories remain,” she said with a smile.

Jeon Min-seo (4th year, Department of Chinese Language and Literature) helped serve meals to individuals experiencing homelessness at the Seoul Metropolitan 24-Hour Guest House. Although initially nervous about making mistakes, she felt more comfortable after hearing “Thank you” and “That was delicious.” Later, she found herself saying things like, “Be careful, it’s hot!”—a gesture of shared warmth.

The 2025 Spring Semester Volunteering Course Excellence Awards closed on a warm and uplifting note—just like the spirit of the course itself. May Hanyang students continue practicing love in their own ways, wherever they are.
