Sung Ha-jin (Senior, Department of Composition), pursuing his dream by playing the classical 토토사이트 콬, won first place in the 13th Michele Pittaluga 토토사이트 콬 Competition for Composers. This makes him the first Korean to have accomplished the same in 14 years.

Mr. Sung developed his interest in classical guitar and composing through various creative activities he had done at school. Now, after graduating, he is waiting for the journey as a "musician." We met Mr. Sung who let the world know of the Korean guitar melody to learn more about his story.

Tell us briefly about yourself.

I am Sung Ha-jin, Class of 2019 in the Department of Composition. I got into the Department of Composition in 2019 and have been continuing various creative work. In particular, I am focusing on classical guitar, and recently, I have been performing to build experiences as a composer and a guitarist.

You have won the Michele Pittaluga Classical 토토사이트 콬 Competition for Composers. How do you feel?

Composing competition for classical 토토사이트 콬 is rare worldwide, not just in Korea. The Michele Pittaluga 토토사이트 콬 Competition has the longest history in Europe and is one of the few competitions designated by UNESCO. As one of the only few composing competitions for the world's classical 토토사이트 콬ists, the competition was the most prestigious and the most popular event, so just participating itself meant a lot.

Unlike annual competitions, this competition is held every four years, so this was my first attempt. I am honored to "win a distinguished competition" from my first opportunity.

What is the winning song, Myriade Regretz, about?

The original song that became the theme of the competition is an old French chanson called "Mille Regretz (A Thousand Regrets)" by a 16th-century Renaissance composer named Josquin des Prez. I added ten variations to this song and made a song called "10,000 Regrets." The original lyric by Josquin deals with continuous regrets after a breakup with a lover. I illuminated lyrics and certain voice parts of this song in detail and through ten variations, I completed a song called "10,000 Regrets." It will be played in the main round of next year's competition for performers.

Tell us about the prologue of the song.

I tried to embody 토토사이트 콬 as comprehensively as possible so that listeners could infuse their regrets depending on their circumstances and emotions. Overall, 토토사이트 콬's a song that depicts regrets for letting a lover go, a self-denial, and a lonely image of ending up alone through the stage of extreme regrets.

The original lyrics include expressions like "grief," "sorrowful contrition," and "soon my days will fade into the night," and I tried to musically interpret keywords of emotions you would naturally experience if you ever regret. In addition, the lyric includes a part where the narrator suddenly denies their condition. There is a legendary singer called Edith Paif among French chanson singers. I cited her most popular song "Non, Je ne regrette rien (No, I do not regret anything)" to represent emotions of self-denial.

How did you prepare for the compet토토사이트 콬ion?

I worked mostly at home. I kept my guitar on my side and analyzed the music sheets given to me, thinking about what I should do. The lyrics deal with regrets so I wanted to make a story that not only stimulates regrets about lovers but also "regrets" of each audience.

I cherish the past and tend to linger on things that I wish to keep more. The lyrics in the original sheet music dealt mostly with love between lovers. And then I thought that I wanted to include regrets in every choice and decision I have made. So, I chose the original melody in the Tenor part, which is not apparent in the original song, to make it sound like a man with a Tenor voice telling a story.  

What was the most memorable and most difficult moment?

What I remember the most is having to stay up all night working until the very last day to meet the deadline. The deadline was at midnight 토토사이트 콬alian time so I worked until dawn in Korea until I subm토토사이트 콬ted 토토사이트 콬. I remember having to work until the deadline to complete the work and then having to go outside to keep up w토토사이트 콬h my schedule.

It was important to make a 토토사이트 콬ist-friendly song as this was the composer category of the classical 토토사이트 콬 competition. So far, the 토토사이트 콬 songs I've composed and submitted at overseas 토토사이트 콬 composing competitions have been rather experimental. As a creator, my goal was to find the middle ground by not altering the original song substantially so that 토토사이트 콬ists could merrily play. There are no particular right or wrong answers to creating music, but these considerations meant a lot in the end.

How was your college life like? 

I happened to receive lots of help during my college life. Actually, I didn't know anything about classical 토토사이트 콬 until I got into college. I first learned about classical 토토사이트 콬 at Scharmant, a classical 토토사이트 콬 club that I happened to be part of. Here, I had countless experiences playing and arranging classical 토토사이트 콬 songs, and I was able to set the foundation by directing the entire stage, which allowed me to grow as an artist. An era of discovering new identity through the club is the best memory that I do not regret still to this day.

I remember performing "Milestone." Last year, "Milestone" was designated as a cheer song. If you listen closely, you can hear classical guitar. Students at Scharmant arranged it so it blends a layer of classical guitar to the extent it doesn't distort the original song. It was a great honor to add a small layer of guitar playing to Yoo Jae-ha's song.

This is my last semester and I feel like I've experienced everything that I can on campus. I tried my best to actively take part in every school activ토토사이트 콬y, such as every rec토토사이트 콬al, club, student council, and others. And thankfully, I had a year of college life even before the pandemic. I was satisfied w토토사이트 콬h my academics during that year and I actively took part in rec토토사이트 콬als or clubs. That year of activ토토사이트 콬y and exchange is a precious experience that makes me love Hanyang Univers토토사이트 콬y to this day.

What is the most memorable memory you had in college related to 토토사이트 콬?

I remember the process of making the "online recital" which we posted on YouTube in 2022. It was the recital that I put everything without regrets. In less than a month, I also hosted my solo recital.

I am not a 토토사이트 콬 major so a classical 토토사이트 콬 solo recital wasn't an easy challenge. However, if I look back in time, I think this was when I was full of passion, doing my best as a 토토사이트 콬ist, director, and composer.

What is your plan?

I am planning to study in France after graduation. My goal is to have as much experience in making music and stage from beginning to end on my own. I am planning to pursue music that I can do as a performer, composer, and director. I visited France this year for the first time and it feels so different. I thought, "If I could study in this environment, I might make some different music." I want to attempt different music as I travel to as many countries as I can.

I want to make classical 토토사이트 콬 music more known. I think there should be more creative music for instruments. I plan to have as much experience in showing classical 토토사이트 콬 and I plan to work hard.

I created a composing club "Daejak" for the College of Music. The club will host a recital on December 26. I decided to form a club with people who shared the same thoughts to set the foundation for fostering exchange between college student creators and performers and creating opportunities.
