To learn more about his life, we met Professor Shin Hak-seung, School of Tourism, who continues futuristic and innovational tourism research.

You have continuously published papers in top-tier SSCI journals. How did you achieve so many accomplishments within a short frame of time?

"Selection and Focus," I'd say. Every researcher has different strategies. Some conduct a bunch of work to compete in quantity, while others compete in quality by focusing on each and every research. Rather than producing a lot of research through joint research with other researchers, I'd like to focus on a small set of research that is more meaningful to society and can contribute better to academia.

Moreover, I am taking full responsibility for all my work, and I strive to get papers I designed as the main author published in high-tier academic journals. Even when I conduct 토토사이트 포에버 with graduate students whom I supervise, I tend to get involved a lot in it. I think my secret is doing my best to make meaningful 토토사이트 포에버 focused on quality, not quantity.

You have conducted studies on many interesting topics such as the ESG and digital transformation of the tourism industry. What do you see the most when you select 토토사이트 포에버 topics?

Two things. First I see if it's something needed for the current tourism industry, and second I check if it helps tourism studies. When 토토사이트 포에버ing the digital transformation of the tourism industry, I divide the goals into aspects of demand and supply. For demands, I set the 토토사이트 포에버 goals as providing a convenient and efficient experience to tourists, and for supply, I set it as improving the profitability and value of the tourism service industry through digital transformation.

Furthermore, I am also conducting ESG 토토사이트 포에버 to make sustainable tourism industry as the global climate crisis has worsened recently. In particular, eco-friendly tours, a tourism ecosystem that bears social responsibility, and sustainable governance are some of my key considerations.

Traveling is a basic human desire. Tourism even appears in ancient literature and is one of the oldest industries on earth. Seeing that 10% of global GDP comes from tourism, it is closely related to our real life.

I believe that by studying tourism 토토사이트 포에버 I can provide a medium that delivers happiness to individuals. I consider what kind of impacts tourism can have by thinking about what roles traveling can have in making a happy life and, moreover, in realizing self and finding the meaning of life.

The tourism service has key roles socially as well. The tourism industry has a substantial impact on society. You can see what I mean by turning on the TV right now. You probably have seen much tourism-related content that depicts traveling like celebrities traveling or running a restaurant abroad.

Tourism has that much close impact on our lives, so I believe that studying the ecosystem of this area itself can greatly contribute. In fact, much research that society, including companies and local communities, needs is already taking place with these factors in mind. 

What is your 토토사이트 포에버 goal or vision?

As I 토토사이트 포에버ed in Korea, I began to realize that our graduate school ecosystem in humanities and social science is troubling. In Korea, it is systemically challenging to produce competent 토토사이트 포에버ers. Korea emphasizes international joint 토토사이트 포에버 and efficient collaboration with overseas 토토사이트 포에버ers, but it has many shortcomings with regard to support and talent development for future academicians.

So personally my goal is to create a lab where master's and Ph.D. 토토사이트 포에버ers at the Future Innovation Tourism Lab can all grow together. I want to make a lab where people can use well-established infrastructure to grow into world-class level 토토사이트 포에버ers.

What is the most memorable event with students?

I try to keep a close relationship with students. The students at the School of Tourism regularly go on the country pilgrimage and joint overseas field trips. As a matter of fact, we happened to be going to Taiwan for international joint field trips. (laughs) I try my best to participate in these events to keep a close relationship with students.

In the past, I used to supervise students for contests or competitions. I tend to be rather tricky when commenting and asking for revisions. At some points, some teams just decide to make themselves disappear. That very team won the silver prize in the final round–so, as a joke, I told them, "You would have gotten the grand prize if you listened to what I said." (laugh) I feel most proud when I see the students I teach make great results.

What is the life of a 토토사이트 포에버er like? If you could go back to your twenties with all the memories you have accumulated so far, would you make the same choice?

Yes, I will choose the same even if I go back to the past with all the memories I have. In fact, the road to becoming a 토토사이트 포에버er was a bumpy one. I used to work for international companies and started studying late. I quit stable jobs and came back to school, and I think this reckless decision was the best one I've ever made in my life.

Could you share a word of advice or encouragement for Hanyang students who will seek outstanding accomplishments like you have?

I think my juniors are doing good. Everyone has similar skills. In the end, I think the attitude towards life makes a whole lot of difference. I believe that there is a formula for success. That is, "Try-Experience-Achieve-Try again." So, I want you to try and experience, whatever that might be. That experience may or may not be a good one, but one thing I can tell you for sure is that it will be fruitful. Through such achievements, you will be able to make better decisions the next time you try. So, through the repetitive process of "trying-experiencing-achieving-trying again," I am sure you will be able to get a step closer to the life that you desire.

I feel saddened when I see students discouraged from taking the initiative in designing their own lives because of what others might think of them. If 100 people go towards a similar goal, even if everyone gives their best, there will always be a range of 1 to 100 in ranks.

However, if you just follow your own goal, no matter what others say, you can be the "only one." It is very important to have in-depth introspection during college on what kind of life you want to live. And the most important thing during that process is having "confidence."
