- First Korean to lead an RSC battery-focused journal
Professor Paik Un-gyu of Hanyang University’s Department of Energy Engineering has been appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of EES Batteries, an international journal published by the Royal Society of Chemistry(RSC) in the UK.
EES Batteries is the sister journal of the prestigious Energy & Environmental Science(EES), specializing in batteries and energy storage. Leveraging the global reputation of EES, the journal publishes top-tier research spanning chemistry, physics, materials science, engineering, computational theory, and energy-related policy.
With the appointment, Professor Paik becomes the only Korean Editor-in-Chief among all RSC journals. He will oversee global trends in battery research and actively identify and connect outstanding research achievements early. Through the role, collaboration between domestic and international researchers will be fostered, strengthening innovation ecosystems across academia and industry worldwide.
Professor Paik expressed his commitment for global contribution, saying, “Through EES Batteries, I will strive to facilitate active exchange among researchers in the battery and energy storage fields amid the global climate crisis and promote the worldwide dissemination of innovative research outcomes.”
Professor Paik has delivered numerous plenary and keynote lectures at international conferences this year and received prestigious awards including the Rustum Roy Lecture Award from the American Ceramic Society and the Research Excellence Award from the Korean Society of Semiconductor and Display Technology. He has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher(top 0.1%) by Clarivate for five consecutive years.
In addition to the academic achievements, he actively promotes technology transfer for commercialization. He plans to introduce his research directly to global companies at the upcoming Innovation Leaders Summit(ILS 2025) in Tokyo this December, accelerating the establishment of industry-academia collaboration ecosystems.
