Hanyang University ERICA (President Lee Ki-jeong) hosted the “RISE Project Launch Ceremony” on August 13 at the Student Welfare Center's Faculty Lounge, signaling the formal start of a cooperative system among local governments, industries, and the university to promote regional development and nurture future industries. The event marked the official launch of a new governance model involving the three sectors working together.

In May, ERICA was selected as the lead university in the semiconductor sector for Gyeonggi Province's RISE project under the "Future Growth Industry Leading" category. The RISE project is a national initiative delegated by the Ministry of Education to local governments, aiming to create a development ecosystem linking regional talent cultivation, employment/entrepreneurship, and local settlement. Gyeonggi Province plans to drive innovative growth between regions and universities through strategies including 'Open & Share', local-to-global talent development innovation, and the "3 Linkages" strategy through industry-academia cooperation.

Notably, ERICA, as the lead for the semiconductor GAIA (Global Advanced Industry Alliance) sector, will oversee specialized curriculum operations, converged education, field practice semesters, joint research and technology development of local government-industry-academia, as well as entrepreneurship education and nurturing. To this end, ERICA established the "RISE Local-Government-Industry-Academia Cooperation Group" consisting of 17 university departments, establishing a university-wide cooperative system.

President Lee emphasized, “The RISE project represents a new challenge for joint growth of universities and regions. ERICA will establish itself as an innovation hub representing Gyeonggi Province, based on accumulated industry-academia cooperation capabilities in the semiconductor field.” He added, “Through close connections among industry, education, and community, we will create a virtuous cycle where young people can learn, work, and settle in the region.”
Furthermore, ERICA will serve as the chair university of the RISE Council, comprising 28 lead universities and 22 participating universities within Gyeonggi Province. In this role, ERICA plans to lead identification of joint tasks and policy coordination among participating universities. This effort is expected to expand industry-linked programs across future growth industries, including semiconductors, and present a sustainable development model for mutual growth of regions and universities.
