Hanyang University ERICA’s Department of Advertising & Public Relations (Department Chair: Oh Hyun-jung) announced the successful completion of an industry-university collaboration project with the Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center (Director: Kang Jin-sook), centered on the theme of “identity of public spaces and civic engagement in Gwangmyeong.”

The project was integrated into the department’s Spring 2025 “Digital Storytelling” course, which was conducted in the form of IC-PBL (Industry-Coupled Problem-Based Learning). Through this format, students tackled real-world challenges proposed by the Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center, gaining hands-on experience that bridged theoretical learning with practical implementation.

The Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center is Korea’s first public cultural space dedicated to upcycling. Since relocating to a new venue in 2024, the center has established itself as a leading community platform for public design and environmental education, with a strong focus on citizen participation and sustainability through creative workshops that blend art and environmentalism.

Among the diverse student proposals, two teams were selected for their creativ캡스 토토사이트y and feasibil캡스 토토사이트y.

The team “Transformer,” winner of the Gwangmyeong Mayor’s Award, developed a paper craft kit combining untold stories of the space with recycled materials to create an interactive experience for citizens. Team member Park Min-seo, a second-year student in the Department of Advertising & Public Relations, remarked, “Seeing the content we created being used in real spaces and interacting with citizens made me reflect deeply on the value of education.”

The team “Aura”, which received the excellence award, developed a character reflecting the sentiments and sharing culture of the MZ generation. Based on the character, they proposed a practical strategy including e-book production, web content layout, and a detailed content distribution plan—making it ready for immediate field application.

Professor Lee Sang-rock, who led the course, commented, “This project demonstrated that recognizing local spaces as brand assets and transforming civic experiences into creative content can return real value to society through education. I hope it served as both a meaningful learning opportunity for students and a model for creative community engagement strategies.”

Kang Jin-sook, Director of the Gwangmyeong Upcycle Art Center, added, “I was especially impressed by the way students developed content from the citizens’ point of view. Many of the final outputs are expected to be used not only as center operation resources but also in the development of future experiential programs.”

Hanyang University ERICA plans to continue expanding its industry-university cooperation programs, strengthening connections with the local community while enhancing students’ practical skills and creative capacity.
